Mac Miller’s Estate Announces Release Date for Posthumous Album Balloonerism
Mac Miller, the beloved rapper and producer, tragically passed away over six years ago, but his music continues to live on through the dedication of his estate. In a heartfelt announcement, the estate revealed the release date for his upcoming posthumous album, Balloonerism. Set to release on January 17, 2025, the album’s debut comes exactly five years after the release of his first posthumous album, Circles, and just two days before what would have been his 33rd birthday.
The album, which holds great personal significance to Mac Miller, was a project he had been working on around the time of his 2014 Faces mixtape. His estate explained in a statement that the album had always been close to his heart. “Many of Malcolm’s fans are aware of Balloonerism, a full-length album that Malcolm created around the time of the release of Faces in 2014,” they shared. “It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm – to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately GO:OD AM and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence.”
Fans will finally get to hear this project that encapsulates Mac Miller’s musical journey and his fearlessness as an artist. The estate believes Balloonerism will offer a fresh perspective on Mac’s evolution as a musician and showcase the diverse talents he was known for. The release serves as a testament to his enduring influence and the impact he left behind on the music world.
This album will be Mac Miller’s first full-length LP since Circles, which was released posthumously in 2020. However, his estate has continued to honor his legacy by releasing several other projects over the years. In 2023, The Quest was released as a single, and the 10th-anniversary edition of his Watching Movies With The Sound Off album was made available. Additionally, in 2022, I Love Life, Thank You, a collection of 10 tracks featuring artists such as Bun B, Sir Michael Rocks, Talib Kweli, and The Come Up, was released. In 2021, the Faces mixtape from 2014 was also made available on streaming platforms, featuring appearances from Rick Ross, Vince Staples, Earl Sweatshirt, and Mike Jones.
Mac Miller tragically passed away in September 2018 due to an accidental drug overdose. His death, which occurred just one month after the release of his Grammy-nominated album Swimming, shook the music world. A coroner’s report revealed that the rapper had fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol in his system at the time of his passing. Despite his untimely death, his music continues to resonate with fans and inspire generations of artists.
With Balloonerism, Mac Miller’s estate ensures that his creative vision continues to be shared with the world, honoring his artistic legacy and giving fans an intimate look at the music he was passionate about completing. As the album release date approaches, anticipation grows for the project that represents both the man and the artist he was, forever etched in time.
